How to record a digital TV programs with a non-digital video recorder?
I have a brand new digital TV with freeview and a fairly new VCR /DVD recorder, but non-digital.
I need to find a solution to record a freeview channel without having to buy a new video recorder.
Can you help me ?
you need a freeview set top box and connect it to your VCR. or buy a PVR (a freeview box with a built in hard drive recorder.
unless your TV has the capability to output the signal to a scart line you have no other option.
if your tv outputs via scart connect the scart lead to the scart out of the TV and then a free scart socket on your video recorder, now to record you will need to select the AV on the video recorder (for the socket you are using) and record when you are ready.
likewise with a freeview set top box, connect the scart lead on the freeview box to the back of the VCR and as above select the appropriate AV port and record from that. you will have to set the freeview box to the channel manually even though you can set your VCR to timer record from the AV socket.
unless you get a set top box that can automatically change channels you will be restricted to manual settings. once yoru VCR is set to the aV channel you never need to change channels with your VCR again. use your set top box to change channels.
speaking here of experiance setting up my VCR with my PVR and before it blew up my old tv which was result of a power surge and the wrong size fuse both internally and in the mains plug at the place the set was assembled). also configuring my PVR and VCR for use via my computer.
EDIT. JIH, what are you talking about. that would work if the asker already had a digi box. The question if you had read and understood it says she has a Digital TV and wants to record digital TV on her VCR. for this reason she needs a Digi box connected to her VCR and the VCR connected to the TV UNLESS the TV has digital output via a scart lead so that the VCR can be used to record from the TV. otherwise JIH you would be right you connect the freeview box to the vcr, the vcr to the tv and job done other than scanning for channels on a new digi box. and setting the VCR to the AV or RF channel used to recieve the digital signal from the freeview box.
as i said not just experiance of setting up my equipment but that of my parents also.

What does an hp dual tv tuner digital video recorder do?
Hi!
My brother's friend gave him a used hp dual tv tuner digital video recorder. No connectors, remote, nothing but the DVR itself. My brother is not tech savvy and his friend is, so he was too embarrased to ask what it's supposed to do. So I am asking the Yahoo Answers Community. What is a hp dual tv tuner digital video recorder used for?
You can watch one TV show while recording another, or record two TV shows while watching a pre-recorded show simultaneously. Or listen to, pause, and replay FM radio broadcasts. This turns your PC into a digital entertainment center. You need a USB 2.0 cable for connecting. Try the HP website for more details and support. Hope this helped.

Can I record freeview channels off a digital television onto my video recorder?
I have just bought a toshiba digital television with freeview and I would like to record with my video recorder freeview digital channels. It is not a digital video recorder and it only has one scart socket and the aeril sockets for connection. If anyone can tell me how I can connect via scart or other means to tape the tv's inbuilt digital channels then that would be great.
if your tv is built in freeview, connect your video through scart lead to tv.
select AV1 on your video and press record. you can only record what your are watching.
Does TIVO Digital Video Recorder bought from US work in India?
I am planning to buy a Digital Video Recorder and could find a reasonab;e priced one --tivo.My requirement is to record TV programs when I am not at home or when I am viewing a different channels.I want to know if this TV Digital video recorder will work for our Indian TV's and satellite providers like Dish TV.
No.
US TiVos only work with NTSC video and 120V service, plus require a subscription that provides only US/Canadian guide data.
I recommend you get a generic recorder that can accept PAL video and 240V power, or better, one sold for/in you market.

whats the best digital video recorder without monthly subsription?
i want to get a digital video recorder to replace my VCR. which one is the best out there without having to pay for monthly subscription like TiVo.
I set up my own DVR using my home PC (hence "PVR" for PERSONAL Video Recorder). Granted, it's not a project for a newbie... but you don't have to be an engineer either; maybe just a little bit geeky like me. In total, It took me an afternoon to set it up on my PC, and about $150 (obviously much cheaper than a commercial DVR).
To have your PC function as a DVR, you need at least two things:
1) a TV Tuner (for video capture from your tv)
2) PVR/DVR software (to program your recordings)
Creating your own PVR has many advantages over commercial DVR:
a) never pay a subscription fee (free electronic tv guide)
b) hardware is cheaper than a DVR recorder
c) easy to burn captured shows/movies to DVD using your PC's media drive
d) easier to upgrade
e) has more features of TiVo, etc., and is more flexible
[eg, I can remotely program my PVR using the web, record 2 programs at the same time, compress video to smaller *.avi format, and of course watch any of my videos on my laptop or even pda).
I thought that it was relatively easy to setup, but I know other people run into obstacles.
Media Morning: 'Hurt Locker' Oscars probably offer little financial bang for ... USA Today
Cost about $15 million to make, and has generated $21.4 million in worldwide ticket sales, according to website Box Office Mojo. That would put the flick on a trajectory to be marginally profitable at best after factoring in marketing costs, and movie theaters' cut from the box office revenues.
Backer's view about the limited Oscar upside for Summit jibes with academic research.
The publicity from being nominated for an Oscar is "more valuable financially than actually winning," says Rutgers Business School's S. Abraham Ravid, currently a visiting professor at the University of Chicago.
His studies also offer little cheer for producers who hope Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock will be bigger draws now that they have best actor and actress awards.
"Award winners do not increase revenues" for the films in which they star, Ravid says. As a result, hiring Bridges or Bullock for their Oscar-enhanced star power "may not necessarily be a profitable proposition."
