We recently had an ATV and Side by Side stolen from our cattle ranch. We really used those vehicles to get around the ranch and maintenance the ranch. I want a real time tracking device that is affordable and works in the middle of nowhere. I've heard about cell phone tracking but does the phone need to be on and charged?
What are good brands of GPS devices and where can I buy some?
We use to run GPS tracking via Nextel cell phones in our fleet of trucks. Yes, they did need to be turned on and if they were low on charge they had a tendency to loose track. Another thing to think about with this method is that it was an extra service to have activated to do the tracking by phone. Also, if they did not have a clear view of the sky they would loose track so it wouldn't be a good idea to try and conceal one on a vehicle and get any reliable results. The best thing to do although not the cheapest would be to get a hard mounted GPS unit that is designed for this type of situation.
