What are the 2 most effective and bug-free ad-removal/spam detection/cleaning programs available?
My computer has problem of getting infected with all kinds of ad-software and bugs. I use McAfee viruscan and windows firewall with sp2. What other programs are most effective in helping ensure that garbage doesn't get loaded onto my computer or that my registry gets all messed up? Thanks for your help and God bless!
Try EWIDO http://www.ewido.net/en/ it is one of the top antitrojan/antispyware programs. Free version only offers on demand scanning...use Windows defender for real time scanning along side it. Also use Spybot S&D http://www.safer-networking.org/ and try Ad-aware: http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Use more than one scanner as one alone is not enough to protect you computer. Use only one in real time though...using more than one real time scanner will cause conflicts when they find something. all the above are free for personal use

Learn the basics about bugs and bug detection techniques with this easy to follow short video
does any one know it there is a bug detection that i could purchase?
conversation that i have in my car and house seem to be recorded
You will just have to look for it. You could also bring a microphone (a hand held cb will work good) and turn it up loud. Move it around the area and if it gets close to another speaker (bug) then it will screech (squeal) and you will know something is there.
How do I remove the Blue/yellow Spyware detection background and bug screen/saver? XoftSpySE returns void scan
I have run scan after scan using various free programs, and finally purchased the number #1 rated Spyware program XoftSpySE for $40.00 and removed about 150 files that were critical threats.
But the blue/yellow background indicator continues to appear as my desktop background, and the bugs continue to crawl over my screen.
I don't know what else to do, because all of my spyware removers cannot find anything after they scan, even Xoft after scanning multiple times.
Please Help.
This is not going to be easy. You need some "know How" ecommend you take it to the geek squad at best buy. Fairly cheap labor
If you feel up to it.....
Use a friends computer and get some software on CD using your friends intarweb connection...
Get adaware from lavasoft for apyware, trojans....look up the virus name on the Symantec site or the McAfee site. Some come with free removal tools, and some, you need to purchase the software.
Spyware is computer software that is installed surreptitiously on a personal computer to intercept or take partial control over the user's interaction with the computer, without the user's informed consent.
While the term spyware suggests software that secretly monitors the user's behavior, the functions of spyware extend well beyond simple monitoring. Spyware programs can collect various types of personal information, such as Internet surfing habit, sites that have been visited, but can also interfere with user control of the computer in other ways, such as installing additional software, redirecting Web browser activity, accessing websites blindly that will cause more harmful viruses, or diverting advertising revenue to a third party. Spyware can even change computer settings, resulting in slow connection speeds, different home pages, and loss of Internet or other programs. In an attempt to increase the understanding of spyware, a more formal classification of its included software types is captured under the term privacy-invasive software.
In response to the emergence of spyware, a small industry has sprung up dealing in anti-spyware software. Running anti-spyware software has become a widely recognized element of computer security best practices for Microsoft Windows desktop computers. A number of jurisdictions have passed anti-spyware laws, which usually target any software that is surreptitiously installed to control a user's computer
-=Anti-spyware programs=-
Lavasoft's Ad-Aware 2008Many programmers and some commercial firms have released products designed to remove or block spyware. Steve Gibson's OptOut pioneered a growing category. Programs such as Lavasoft's Ad-Aware SE (free scans for non-commercial users, must pay for other features) and Patrick Kolla's Spybot - Search & Destroy (all features free for non-commercial use) rapidly gained popularity as effective tools to remove, and in some cases intercept, spyware programs. More recently Microsoft acquired the GIANT AntiSpyware software, rebranding it as Windows AntiSpyware beta and releasing it as a free download for Genuine Windows XP and Windows 2003 users. In 2006, Microsoft renamed the beta software to Windows Defender (free), and it was released as a free download in October 2006 and is included as standard with Windows Vista. Other well-known commercial anti-spyware products include:
PC Tools's Spyware Doctor (free scans but you have to pay to remove the spyware)
Sunbelt Software's Counterspy (15-day free trial)
Trend Micro's HijackThis (free)
Webroot Software's Spy Sweeper (free version does not remove spyware)
ParetoLogic's Anti-Spyware and XoftSpy SE (free version does not remove spyware)
Major anti-virus firms such as Symantec, McAfee and Sophos have come later to the table, adding anti-spyware features to their existing anti-virus products. Early on, anti-virus firms expressed reluctance to add anti-spyware functions, citing lawsuits brought by spyware authors against the authors of web sites and programs which described their products as "spyware". However, recent versions of these major firms' home and business anti-virus products do include anti-spyware functions, albeit treated differently from viruses. Symantec Anti-Virus, for instance, categorizes spyware programs as "extended threats" and now offers real-time protection from them (as it does for viruses).
Recently, the anti-virus company Grisoft, creator of AVG Anti-Virus, acquired anti-spyware firm Ewido Networks, re-labeling their Ewido anti-spyware program as AVG Anti-Spyware Professional Edition. AVG also used this product to add an integrated anti-spyware solution to some versions of the AVG Anti-Virus family of products, plus made a freeware AVG Anti-Spyware Free Edition available for private and non-commercial use. This shows a trend by anti virus companies to launch a dedicated solution to spyware and malware. Zone Labs, creator of Zone Alarm firewall have also released an anti-spyware program.

See also: Rogue software
Malicious programmers have released a large number of fake anti-spyware programs, and widely distributed Web banner ads now spuriously warn users that their computers have been infected with spyware, directing them to purchase programs which do not actually remove spyware—or worse, may add more spyware of their own.[44][45]
The recent proliferation of fake or spoofed antivirus products has occasioned some concern. Such products often bill themselves as antispyware, antivirus, or registry cleaners, and sometimes feature popups prompting users to install them. This software is called rogue software.
It recommended that users do not install any freeware claiming to be anti-spyware unless it is verified to be legitimate. Some known offenders include:
AntiVirus Gold
ContraVirus
Errorsafe (AKA system doctor)
MacSweeper
PAL Spyware Remover
Pest Trap
PSGuard
SpywareStrike
Spyware Quake
Spydawn
Spylocked

What is the difference between a Registry Cleaner and a Spyware Detection Program?
I purchased a Spyware detection software and they offer a Registry cleaner, and it makes sense to get it, but what is the main difference between the two? and will the Registry Cleaner detect a lot more bugs than the "critical registry components" that my spyware already has cleaned up...?
Registry cleaner just removes unnecessary items in your registry. Usually left over entries from programs that you've removed. The purpose of it is to make your operating system faster. A spyware program will detect and (hopefully) remove any malware that gets placed on your machine. This might have a similar side effect of making your machine faster, but its primary purpose is to remove stuff that can potentially steal data, open security holes on your computer, and/or place popups and other bothersome programs on your computer.

What are the PI Service Charges in Singapore for Spy-Cam detection?
Anyone knows of any reputable Private Investigator who do house sweep of bugs and mini cameras at a affordable price in Singapore? The one that i ask wants to charge me $500 per room. I can't afford that kind of price so is there other alternative?
Security industry faces attacks it cannot stop San Francisco Chronicle
The big news at the show had to do with the takedown of the Mariposa botnet -- a massive network of hacked computers that has infected half of the Fortune 100 companies . So-called advanced persistent threat (APT) attacks, such as the one that compromised Google systems in early December, were another hot topic.
Both Mariposa and the Google attacks illustrate the same thing, however. Despite billions of dollars in security spending, it's still surprisingly hard to keep corporate networks safe.
That's because for these advanced attacks to work, the bad guys need to find only one vulnerability in order to sneak their malicious software onto the target network. Once they get a foothold, they can break into other computers, steal data, and then move it offshore. The good guys have to be perfect -- or at least very quick about spotting intrusions -- to keep APT threats at bay.
Traditional security products are simply not much help against APT attacks, said Alex Stamos, a partner with Isec Partners , one of the companies investigating the APT attacks. "All of the victims we've worked with had perfectly installed antivirus," he said. "They all had intrusion detection systems and several had Web proxies scan content."

Mark Sheperdigian on the limits of bed bug inspections
Mark Sheperdigian has a new brief — but important — article in Pest Management Professional, about the limits of bed bug inspections.
The author is stating truisms known to those who know bed bugs — not radical new insights. And yet it is crucial for the pest management professional working on bed bug cases both to understand these facts — and to communicate them to their customers.
First, Sheperdigian comments on the difficulty of knowing whether a unit is infested:
We can discover with 100 percent certainty that an account is infested; we cannot discover with 100 percent certainty that it is not.
This is the most frustrating factor for people who think they have bed bugs. Many will spend hundreds of dollars in human and canine scent detection and still have no certainty whether they have bed bugs.
Sometimes people feel they have hired a lousy PCO or dog team; sometimes that is so, but the truth is: bed bugs are stealthy and hard to detect. That’s just how Sneaky Simes rolls. And so, Sheperdigian suggests, the key is for bed bug pros to communicate the difficulty of detection.
And Sheperdigian reminds us that “Most infestations are established before they are discovered,” and
This also means that in a multiple-unit dwelling situation such as apartments and senior housing, the units reporting bed bugs are only a portion of the problem. Therefore, a program that begins by treating only units that have reported bed bugs is treating only a portion of the problem. There are almost always units that have a light infestation unbeknownst to the tenants — and units that have heavier infestations unreported by the tenants.
Perhaps that is the one piece of information I wish all tenants and landlords knew. People tend to complain about bed bugs if they see them, or if they react to bed bug bites — and even then, they will often hesitate while they explore other possible causes (and in some cases, until they hear for the first time that bed bugs exist!)
