I'm going to Bulgaria in 2 weeks time, I am considering taking a spy camera with audio recording abilities with me so I can record onto an MP4 player (for security reasons), however I'm not sure if such devices are legal in Bulgaria. Can someone advise me and point me to sources of information

Such devices are not legal anywhere.
You are taking a huge risk.
Consider the plight of the plane-spotters in Greece who were openly taking photographs of aircraft and happened to snap a few military aircraft. They were arrested for their harmless past-time. They were later released but spent some time in jail before they were released.
If you are trying to gain surreptitious footage, and you are caught, you may find yourself in a Bulgarian prison.
If you plan to go through with this, you may wish to leave detailed information of why you are doing this with a trusted friend or family member so that this information can be passed to the UK authorities here and in Bulgaria (i.e. the embassy) so that they may advocate for your release into British custody.
Especially if you suddenly go missing.
It is unlikely you will be simply deported and declared 'persona non grata'.
If it's about getting evidence against illegal activities in Bulgaria, be aware that any gangs will probably kill you on the spot.

Have a crazy ex and a friend gave me a little spy camera that records video and audio to turn on in the event he ever stops by. I don't think the audio portion is legal in MD, but in the event something terrible happens and it were actually recorded, could I (or my family) use the recordings against him in court....perhaps removing the audio portion just so that it would be acceptable?

Still at it 6 months later? If you can't find something that was added to YOUR bike, take it to a shop. A dealer will be able to find every non-factory item on it.
You need to get further away from the Ex. And get a restraining order too.

where can i buy a mini spy camera in UK?
im looking for a mini spy camera ,do u know where i can buy one in UK? the recording has to be for atleast few days not just hours.also to record audio and for video.
i looked in ebay and they dont have .
there are a few companies maybe you can contact them and they can let you know if they can supply you with what you want.
on things this small it is going to be hard to record that amount of video
and sound. even if you highly compressed the video.
School District Faces Lawsuit Over Webcam Spying Claims PC World
The investigation follows a lawsuit filed in the U.S. Eastern District of Pennsylvania alleging that the Lower Merion school district misused the MacBooks' Webcams, based on an incident where a vice principal accused a student, Blake Robbins, of illicit drug use in his home. His parents asked for evidence, to which the vice principal responded that they had pictures from Robbins's Webcam.
How exactly did the school district get access to students' Webcams? Well, Lower Merion installed security software on the Macs it issued to 2300 students, but never disclosed the possibility that they could be remotely monitored for audio and video input--which could be illegal under federal and state laws governing topics like wiretaps and computer-instrusion.
An analysis of how MacBooks could be used this way was posted by a security researcher writing under the (presumed) pseudonym of Stryde Hax. According to Hax, Lower Merion used LANRev software (recently rebranded Absolute Manage ) to implement both the system lockdown and remote access on the MacBooks. LANRev includes camera, screenshot, and IP location tracking in its monitoring as an antitheft tool.
